Palm tree trimming in Clermont, FL
Galapagos trims palms in Clermont with a safe setup on sloped yards: we remove brown fronds, flower and fruit stalks, leave the green crown, and look for the potassium shortage common on sandy ridge soil. Feeding advice follows Lake County’s fertilizer rules, including the June–September ban.
Working on a grade
Sloped yards need stable footing for ladders and equipment. We plan the setup before we climb: where the ladder stands, where fronds will land and how they will be carried uphill to the truck. Palms at the top of a slope often lean slightly downhill, and we take that into account when we cut.
Feed, don’t over-cut
Sandy ridge soil leaches nutrients fast, so palms here often show potassium deficiency in their lower fronds. The fix is the right palm fertilizer, not removing those fronds: UF/IFAS says yellowing fronds are still feeding the palm. In unincorporated Lake County, fertilizer with nitrogen or phosphorus waits out June 1 to September 30 on residential turf, and nothing goes within 15 feet of a lake; we plan palm feeding to stay well within those rules.
Older palms in older neighborhoods
Around downtown and Lake Minneola, some palms are tall and decades old. Tall palms near roofs and streets are worth a cleanup before hurricane season (June 1 to November 30), with dead fronds and fruit removed and the green crown left full — the approach UF/IFAS found holds up better in storms than "hurricane cuts".
Palms by the Chain of Lakes
On lots that run down to one of the Clermont lakes, fronds and fruit should not end up in the water, so we stage debris well back from the shore and carry it uphill. Work on shoreline plants themselves can need separate approvals, so we keep to the palms and the yard above the waterline.

Questions about palm tree trimming
Why do palms in Clermont turn yellow at the bottom?
Most often potassium deficiency. Sandy ridge soil loses nutrients fast, and the palm moves potassium out of its oldest fronds. Leave them on and use a palm fertilizer at the right time of year.
When can I fertilize my palms in Clermont?
We plan palm feeding outside the June 1 to September 30 window that Lake County sets for nitrogen and phosphorus, keep it 15 feet from water, and skip it when heavy rain is forecast.
My palm is on a steep part of the yard. Can you still trim it?
Usually, yes. We level and secure the ladder or bring a lift where access allows. If a palm can’t be reached safely, we tell you before the visit, not during it.
Is it worth trimming a very tall old palm?
If it stands over a roof, a driveway or the street, yes: dead fronds and fruit become debris in a storm. If it is healthy and away from targets, it can go longer between trims.
