What does bush and shrub trimming include?

Our bush and shrub trimming service shapes hedges and foundation shrubs, cuts them back from walls, windows, A/C units and walkways, and removes dead wood. Clippings are bagged and taken away, and walks and driveways are blown clean before we leave.

How often should shrubs be trimmed in Florida?

Most foundation shrubs here grow all year and fastest in the rainy season. For a clean, formal look, many homes need trimming every one to three months from spring through fall and less in winter. Hedges that are allowed a softer, natural shape can go longer. We set a schedule based on what you have and the look you want, and it can ride along with your mowing visits.

Why keep shrubs off the house?

Shrubs pressed against the walls hold moisture on stucco, block airflow around the A/C condenser, hide entry points for insects and make windows useless. A few inches of clearance keeps the house dry, the condenser breathing and the windows clear. If insects are already a problem, we can arrange pest control through a licensed provider.

When should flowering shrubs be pruned?

Timing matters for shrubs that bloom. The UF/IFAS Central Florida calendar suggests pruning shrubs that don’t flower in spring during the winter, lightly pruning summer-flowering shrubs in June, and waiting on spring bloomers like azaleas until after they flower. Cut a spring bloomer in January and you cut off the flowers.

What about shrubs that are badly overgrown?

An overgrown hedge can’t always be brought back to size in one visit without leaving bare, woody stems. We may reduce it in stages over a season or two, or recommend replacing a shrub that has outgrown its spot with something that fits. That kind of change is part of plants & shrubs and landscape design.

Trimming, mulch and beds together

Freshly trimmed shrubs look best in a clean bed. You can add mulch installation once or twice a year and a yard cleanup when the beds have gotten away from them. We trim shrubs in Celebration, Davenport, Four Corners, ChampionsGate and Clermont.

  4. Keep the schedule

Repeat visits set to how fast your shrubs grow and the season.

Common questions

Questions about bush & shrub trimming

When should azaleas be trimmed?

Right after they finish blooming in spring. Trimming in fall or winter removes next year’s flower buds.

How much space should shrubs have around the A/C unit?

Enough for air to move freely around the condenser; check your unit’s manual for the manufacturer’s clearance. We trim back anything crowding it on every visit.

Can you cut an overgrown hedge way back?

Sometimes in one visit, often in stages, depending on the plant. Cutting too hard at once can leave bare stems for months. We tell you what to expect before we start.

Can shrub trimming be added to my mowing visits?

Yes. Trimming can run every few visits on the same day as the mowing, priced as part of your schedule.
