How pest control works with us

Pest control is offered through a licensed provider. Galapagos coordinates it; a licensed pest control company does the treatments. In Florida, every business that performs pest control must be licensed by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) (s. 482.071, F.S.). Galapagos does not hold that license, so our crews never apply pesticides for pest control.

What we do

  • listen to what you’re seeing (ants, roaches, lawn insects, signs of rodents) and pass it on to the licensed provider,
  • schedule the provider’s visits alongside your lawn or property visits when that works,
  • tell you which company is doing the work, so you know who is on your property,
  • stay your single point of contact if something needs follow-up.

What the licensed provider does

The provider inspects, recommends a treatment plan and does the treatments with its licensed staff. Questions about products, safety for children and pets, and re-entry times go to them; we’ll put you in touch.

Check the license yourself

You can look up any pest control company’s license on the FDACS Pest Control Database Search. We encourage it. It’s the simplest way to know who you are hiring.

Lawn insects or lawn care?

Not every brown patch is a bug. In St. Augustine grass, chinch bugs start in hot, dry, sunny spots, and UF/IFAS links outbreaks to mowing too short, too much nitrogen and poor irrigation coverage. Large patch, a fungal disease, shows up in cooler months as round patches with darker or orange edges. Good lawn maintenance, correct mowing heights and sprinklers that reach evenly prevent many problems before anyone needs a treatment. UF/IFAS lists managing yard pests responsibly among the Florida-Friendly Landscaping principles.

Around the house

Shrubs and mulch touching the walls give ants and other insects a path into the house. Keeping plants trimmed back with shrub trimming and mulch pulled a few inches away from the foundation helps alongside any treatment.

Common questions

Questions about pest control (through a licensed provider)

Do you do pest control?

We coordinate pest control through a licensed pest control provider. Galapagos does not hold a pest control license; the licensed company performs the treatment.

Who does the pest control, and how do I check their license?

A licensed pest control provider performs the treatment; Galapagos does not hold the license. Florida law requires every pest control business to be licensed by FDACS, and you can look up any license in the FDACS Pest Control Database. Ask us for the provider’s name when you request the service.

Who actually does the pest control?

A licensed pest control company we coordinate with. Galapagos does not hold a pest control license and our crews don’t apply pest treatments.

How can I check the provider’s license?

Ask us for the company name and search it on the FDACS Pest Control Database Search (aeslicensing.fdacs.gov).

Are brown patches in my lawn caused by bugs?

Sometimes (chinch bugs in St. Augustine), but drought stress, mowing too short and fungal disease look similar. We check the lawn first so the right fix is used.

Are the treatments safe for kids and pets?

That question belongs to the licensed provider, who chooses the products and gives re-entry instructions. We put you in touch before the first treatment.
